A fundamental feature of this project is the fact that the cafe is open to the street. The long “stage” formed by the windows can be opened along its entire length. The life of the cafe becomes part of street life. The menu is posted on the window display. The client requires the use of natural materials: shellstone wall facing, industrial teak parquet flooring, veneered furniture and natural leather. The lighting is given the attention it deserves. A long illuminated groove above the entrance provides diffuse lighting for the ceiling; lamps above each table reach out to the visitor like tentacles and the illuminated base of the bar “lifts” it from the floor at night. The mirror stainless-steel bar is unnoticeable in the small space. The aim is for everything to look as if it has always been there.
